Lose Weight by Common Sense
Posted on Nov 20, 2008 04:51:41 AM
After my last post “Preparation”, I’d like to get moving by talking about some of the great weight loss tips that exist that actually can work.
When I say they can work, I mean they will work for those who are determined enough that they should work. This might seem a strange statement to make, but the long and the short of it is this.
Of you want to lose weight, you have to want to lose weight!
Too many people think they want to lose weight and then try all the latest fad diets and magic pills and potions that are everywhere these days. But they don’t want it enough to do anything for themselves. How can I say that?
Easy. Think about it for yourself. Did your last diet work? Did you lose weight only tro put it all back on again? If the answer is yes, then I’m afraid the answer is that you didn’t want it enough.
Because if you want something enough, you’ll go that extra mile to get it and keep it!
So, now that I’ve totally browned you off and made you feel like a failure – its time to listen to what I’m saying here. The single most important point in achieving anything in your life is wanting it badly enough to get it and to keep it. That includes you health, which is closely linked with your weight.
Now here’s another earth shattering statement. You may not actually need to lose any weight to be healthy.
What did he say?
That’s right. So many people think they’re a few pounds too heavy because some magazine or peer group says so. But what do they know? Some smart arse came up with a thing called BMI (body mass index) and suddenly a whole group of otherwise healthy people are scared into thinking that they’re overweight.
That is a crazy measure of a person’s weight as it does not take into consideration a person’s build, bone mass, muscle mass or retained water content. Yet so many people use it as a guide to their weight that its crazy! When contemplating health today you have to think about yourself and not what other people are doing.
It doesn’t hurt to be a few pounds overweight as long as you exercise regularly.
Exercise and a good weight loss plan is the single most important factor when it comes to weight loss. Sure food intake is important too as you can’t go stuffing your face with pizzas and ice cream and expect to get thin with a half hours work out a day. You have to combine eating as well as you can with exercising as much as you can.
No strict regimes are necessary.
You have to find the right level for you. Why? Because no two people are the same. So no two exercise routines and diet sheets are going to work the same for two different people.
Understand this and you can then stop fretting about how to lose weight or worrying about having to lose 20 pounds or whatever. You can free your mind of all the hype and false information that the media deluges us with every day and simply get on with working on what is right for you. And only you will know what is comfortable for you!
In later posts, I’ll talk about what will work for most people without laying down any rules!
Until then…
